Accelerated Placement Procedures

Komarek School District 94 under Policy 6:135 offers an Accelerated Placement Program (APP). The APP provides opportunities for students to be accelerated within a single subject, grade level acceleration, and early entrance to kindergarten or first grade. 

Please note: In order to register for schooling at Komarek, the following must be available for the District to make copies of: current lease with landlord's name and number, tax bill, or closing papers for current residency; and three proofs of residency (e.g., cell phone bill, driver’s license, gas bill, etc…).

Early Entrance to Kindergarten or 1st Grade

Early entrance to either Kindergarten or 1st grade is considered a grade acceleration. For students to qualify, they must show strong evidence within Komarek’s early entrance screening process. 

In order for Komark School District 94 to consider early entrance/grade acceleration for a student, parents must submit an application. The Early Entrance to Kindergarten or First Grade Application must be completed and submitted to the School Office no later than May 1st in order to be screened for placement for the following school year. Applications submitted after May 1st will not be accepted. 

For a student to enter Komarek School under the accelerated placement policy, he/she must first pass the screening process. Please note that Komarek reserves the right to deny further testing if screening requirements are not met.  

Assessments & Process

Stage I: Assessments Utilized for Screening: a behavioral questionnaire, social work observations, a speech/language and pathology assessment, reading comprehension and literacy assessments, math achievement assessment, and an assessment on automaticity math skills.  For some students, the screening process will end at this point based on the readiness data collected by the District Screening Team. Parents will be notified after this stage has been completed if their child will be moving to Stage II.   

Stage II:  If warranted based on the screening data above, a one-on-one cognitive assessment and an achievement assessment will also be administered by a district psychologist. Parents will be contacted with details and asked to provide consent.

Upon completion of a formal report, results of the testing will be reviewed with the parents to discuss the recommended placement. 

Grade Level or Single Subject Acceleration

For a student to be accelerated into another grade level or single subject acceleration, they must show strong evidence within Komarek’s grade level/single subject acceleration screening process. The request for acceleration via completion of the Grade Level Acceleration Application must be completed and submitted by May 1st for conseration for the following year. Please note that Komarek reserves the right to deny further testing if screening requirements are not met.   

Assessments & Process

Students who are screened for single subject acceleration may only be tested within reading or mathematics depending on the single subject acceleration request.  

For some students, the screening process will end at this point based on the readiness data collected by the District Screening Team. Parents will be notified after this stage has been completed if their child will be moving to Stage II.
